The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Purdue Boilermakers face off on Wednesday in Big Ten college basketball action.
The Illinois Fighting Illini reached the national rankings and then went on to lose their next two games. Illinois is 9-0 at home this season and 2-2 in Big 10 conference play. Rayvonte Rice leads the Illini averaging 18.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. The Purdue Boilermakers are coming off of their first Big Ten win of the season as they beat Nebraska on Sunday. Purdue is 2-4 away from home and 1-2 in Big 10 games having played the 147th ranked schedule. Terone Johnson leads the Boilermakers averaging 13.6 points. Ronnie Johnson is averaging 11.4 points, A.J. Hammons is averaging 9.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, and Kendall Stephens is averaging 7.2 points. Purdue is averaging 77.3 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 70.9 points and their opponents are shooting 41.4 percent. Purdue is 3-3 against teams with a RPI of 100 or better.
Illinois is 7-2-2 against the spread in their last 11 home games, 3-1-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 2-8-1 against the spread against the Big Ten. Purdue is 4-0 against the spread in their last four Wednesday games and 7-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. Purdue has covered the point spread in four of their last five games at Illinois.
Illinois is unbeaten at home but after back-to-back poor outings I like the Boilermakers and the points as the better of the two options.
