The UNLV Rebels take to the road to face Mountain West rival the New Mexico Lobos.
UNLV has one of the best combinations of scoring and defense but neither were strong enough as the Rebels opened the conference slate 0-2 after a 74-71 loss to visiting Nevada. The Rebels struggled to find the shooting touch at 35% while the Wolf Pack connected at just under 45% which added up to seven more field goals. Leading scorer Bryce Dejean-Jones tossed in 15 points and posted six yanks with Roscoe Smith netting 13 points and grabbing 15 rebounds followed by Khem Birch and Christian Wood with 12 and eleven points and a combined 12 boards.

New Mexico is at their best when they control the pace and score the basketball which they have generally done during a five game hot streak. The Lobos come in off of a 69-65 decision over San Jose State in which the pace was a bit slower then UNM likes. Both teams had trouble finding the range at around 39% with New Mexico holding a 15-6 edge at the charity stripe which decisive. Kendall Williams led the Lobos offense with 19 points, six pulls and seven helpers followed by a 15 point, five board effort from Cameron Bairstow while Deshawn Delaney and Alex Kirk tossed in 12 and nine points with Delaney snagging seven rebounds.
I can't see New Mexico losing this but at the same time UNLV is in big trouble with a third conference defeat. The Rebels do have San Diego State on deck but they certainly can't afford to look ahead so slight lean to the points...
