The Northwestern Wildcats and Michigan State Spartans face off on Wednesday in Evanston in Big Ten college basketball action.
The Northwestern Wildcats have struggled this season but are coming off of their first Big Ten conference game of the season knocking off Illinois. Northwestern is 1-3 in Big 10 play and 7-3 at home this season going 1-3 in Big Ten play. Drew Crawford leads the Cats averaging 15.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. JerShonn Cobb is averaging 11.9 points, Alex Olah 9.1 5.2 rebounds, and Tre Demps is averaging 9.9 points. Northwestern is averaging 63.7 points and they are shooting 40.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.2 points and their opponents are shooting 42.1 percent. Northwestern played a deliberate pace to get the win against Illinois and will more than likely try to dictate that same pace here.

The Michigan State Spartans are 15-1 for the year and ranked fourth in the nation. MSU is 7-0 away from home thus far this season playing the 15th ranked schedule in the country. Keith Appling is averaging 16.4 points and 4.6 assists per game. Adreian Payne is averaging 16.2 and 7.7 rebounds, Gary Harris is averaging 17.8 points and 4.5 rebounds, and Branden Dawson is averaging 10.4 points and 8.7 rebounds. Michigan State is averaging 82.2 points and they are shooting 48 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.4 points and 38.1 percent shooting against. Tom Izzo once again appears to have a contender.
Northwestern is 1-4 against the Big Ten, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, and 1-8 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. Michigan State is 6-1 against the spread following a win, 6-1 in their last seven games, and 7-3-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Michigan State is 1-4 against the point spread in the last five meetings of these two.
The total in this one is set at 128 and with Northwestern trying to controol the pace it should still get past this modest number so my free pick is the over. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will put that in the Premium Area as well as the App.
