The Fresno State Bulldogs hit the road for a conference duel with the 10th ranked San Diego State Aztecs Wednesday at 10PM on ESPN3.
Fresno State is off to a rough start this season, currently sitting at 8-9 on the year and 1-3 in MWC play. The Bulldogs are coming off a lopsided defeat at Colorado State 76-57. The Rams overwhelmed the thin, Fresno State lineup with their deep shooting and depth. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs got a good game out of Tyler Johnson who had 21 points on 8-14 shooting. Cezar Gurrerro and Paul Watson combined for 23 points as well but no other Bulldogs tallied double figures. Adding to their shortcomings, the Bulldogs got just 5 total points from the 7 reserves who saw time.

San Diego State surged into the top 10 this week after a 79-72 win over Air Force this past weekend. The win pushed San Diego State to 14-1 and 3-0 in conference play. Five players registerd points in the teens for the Aztecs, with JJ O’Brien’s 18 and 11 leading the way. Josh Davis added 13 and 11 as well and the Aztecs continue to get strong production from their veteran front court night in and night out. Xavier Thames added 16 and 5 assists and SDSU won the battle on the boards 39-30. The Aztecs rank 16th in the country in rebounds (40 per game) and have now won 13 in a row.
This game has easy cover written all over it. The Bulldogs are thin across the board and especially thin up front and the Aztecs feature one of the best front courts in the nation. I expect another dominant outing for O’Brien and Davis and the Aztecs to cruise in front of the home crowd with the cover and win number 14 in a row.
