The East Carolina Pirates look to get in the conference win column with a visit to Florida Atlantic Thursday night at Florida Atlantic.
The Pirates take to the road after losing their conference opener at home to Old Dominion 81-70. The Pirates lost the battle on the boards significantly and went cold late in the game as the Monarchs pulled away. East Carolina was led in scoring by swingman Paris Roberts-Campbell who finished with 21 points to lead ECU scorers. Roberts-Campbell added 7 boards and was aided by the solid play of his backcourt partner Akeem Richmond. Richmond scored 14 points and added 3 boards as well. The Pirates cold streak in the second half and overall 22 of 55 from the floor was their ultimate undoing in this one. The loss makes it 3 of their past 4 for the Pirates.

Florida Atlantic moved to 5-11 and has won 2 of 3 after putting away Rice this past weekend 73-68. Eight players saw action for the Owls and four of Florida Atlantic’s starting five were in double figures. Pablo Bertone led the way with 20 points and Marquan Botley added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. The Owls erased a five point halftime deficit and was sent to the line often in the second half on their way to 22-29 at the stripe. At center, Justin Raffington added 11 and 12 boards down low.
ECU was upended in Norfolk after being in favored in the contest. Despite the loss, the Pirates have been consistently solid this year and I expect them to bounce back in their second conference game. Look for ECU to get out and run early behind the strong play of Paris Roberts-Campbell and Richmond and for the Pirates to pull away for the road win late and the narrow cover over FAU.
