The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Ohio State Buckeyes face off on Thursday in Big Ten college basketball action.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have been solid this season but when they have been called to take their game up a level they haven’t answered the challenge. Minnesota is 2-2 in Big 10 games and 0-2 against teams ranked in the top 25. Andre Hollins leads the Gophers averaging 16.3 points per game. Austin Hollins is averaging 12.1 points and 6.7 rebounds, Deandre Mathieu is averaging 11.4 points, and Malik Smith is averaging 10.1 points. Minnesota is averaging 75.9 points and they are shooting 43.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.1 points and their opponents are shooting 41.5 percent. Minnesota is 10-1 at home this season.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have lost their last two games and after starting the season unbeaten, they are starting to look for answers. OSU is 3-1 away from home this season and they are ranked 11th in the nation. LaQuinton Ross is averaging 13.6 points and 5.8 rebounds to lead the Buckeyes. Lenzelle Smith Jr. is averaging 12.2 points, Amir Williams is averaging 9.6 points and 6.9 rebounds, and Aaron Craft is averaging 9.1 points and 5.1 assists. Ohio State is averaging 75.1 points and they are shooting 46.8 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 57.6 points and their opponents shoot 38.1 percent. Ohio State has slipped into a tie for fifth place in the Big Ten.
Minnesota is 4-10-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 1-5-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five home games. Ohio State is 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games, 8-1 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 1-4 against the spread following a loss. Ohio State has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two.
Not sure why the total is this low but over 132.5 looks to be a solid play and it is my free pick. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that pick in the Premium Area and on the App.
