UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos and the Long Beach State 49ers face off on Thursday Night in Big West Conference college basketball action.
The UC- Santa Barbara Gauchos started their Big West season off with a loss to Cal Poly and they look to bounce back here. UCSB is 4-2 at home for the season and they have played the 56th ranked schedule so they are battle tested and ready for their third consecutive home game. Alan Williams leads the Gauchos averaging 24.2 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. Kyle Boswell is averaging 12 points, Michael Bryson is averaging 10.1 points, and Taran Brown is averaging 7.4 points and 4.6 rebounds. UCSB is averaging 72.6 points and they are shooting 47.5 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 65.8 points and their opponents are shooting 39.9 percent. UCSB hasn’t lost to a team with a RPI worse than 100.

The Long Beach State 49ers are six games under .500 for the season but they have played the second toughest schedule in the country. LBSU is 1-8 on the road this season with seven of their losses coming to teams with a RPI better than 50. Tyler Lamb is averaging 18.3 points per game to lead the 49ers. Michael Caffey is averaging 16 points and 4.5 rebounds, Dan Jennings is averaging 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, and A.J. Spencer is averaging 8.6 points. As a team Long Beach State is averaging 67.3 points and they are shooting 40.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.7 points and their opponents are shooting 44.5 percent. LBSU is a little tough to figure out with the tough OOC scheduling and Lamb missing the bulk of the season thus far.
UC-Santa Barbara is 4-1-1 against the spread against the Big West, 5-1 against the spread following a loss, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four games. Long Beach State is 5-0 against the spread in their last five road games, 2-5 against the spread following a win, and 1-6-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread. LBSU has covered the point spread in nine of their last 10 visits to UCSB.
The line here looks to be too big and while I like Long Beach State to win outright I will take the points for good measure.
