If you want to know what the story is with Rice the numbers do tell the story with opponents outscoring the Owls 69-66 leading to a 5-10 record. It was close but no cigar in a 73-68 loss to Florida Atlantic as the Owls couldn't hold a five point lead at the half. Rice shot the ball at 44% but FAU won it with 21-13 edge at the foul line with 16 giveaways by the home team the nail in the coffin. Southern Mississippi is one of the elite squads in the CUSA although they didn't look like it in a 75-71 defeat to conference rival Tulsa last time out which ended a five game winning streak. Even though this was tight on the scoreboard the Golden Hurricane were front runners throughout with the the Golden Eagles 27 personals turning in to a 24-17 advantage for TU at the charity stripe. The Golden Hurricanes were led in the scoring column by an 18 point, eight rebound performance from James Woodard with Patrick Swilling Jr. next in line with 17 followed by D'Andre Wright and Rashad Ray added ten points each with Wright hauling in nine rebounds before fouling out in 29 minutes.
Southern Mississippi doesn't usually run up the score on opponents although I think they could have. I see no way Rice wins and they will be fortunate to cover so this might be one to ignore...
