Two disappointing teams square off Saturday as the Marquette Golden Eagles visit the Butler Bulldogs at 2PM on CBS Sports Network.
Marquette moved to .500 in Big East play this past week as the Golden Eagles held on late to get the win over Seton Hall 67-66 at home. The Golden Eagles played prototypical Marquette ball for about 30 minutes before their offensive struggles emerged and the Pirates cut it to two before Marquette got a few key buckets to hold on late. Jamil Wilson led the way with 16 points and 11 boards and Todd Mayo added 19 off the bench for Marquette, who only had these two players reach double figures. The Golden Eagles hit just three 3’s for the game and committed 12 turnovers as well. Once again, the Golden Eagles can thank their quality free throw shooting for the win -- Marquette finished the game 18-23 from the line.

Butler has easily been one of the most disappointing teams in the nation. Despite the loss of Brad Stevens and Roosevelt Jones to injury, it was widely expected that the Bulldogs had the depth and experience to compete in the Big East immediately. Instead, the Bulldogs have been on the losing end of three conference OT losses and most recently, a blowout at the hands of Creighton on the road 88-60. This one was over quickly as the Bluejays racked up 50+ first half points before calling off the dogs in the second half and coasting to the win. Despite just 3 turnovers, the Bulldogs were dominated in all other facets and continue to struggle mightily from the field -- an area where they have excelled for years. The loss marks 0-5 for the Bulldogs.
This game should be a low scoring affair and I am going to have to go with the more physical squad here and that is easily the Golden Eagles. Marquette has lost some close contests on the road in conference play and I think this is the game that they get over the hump as the Bulldogs are quickly becoming demoralized with each and every loss and looked as though they didnt even want to be there at Creighton. Marquette with the cover and single digit win on the road.
