The 12-4 New Mexico Lobos will make their third road trip in four games when it travels to the Save Mart Center to play the 8-10 Fresno State Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs can’t wait for this season to end, as they’ve lost seven of their last nine games and are only ahead of San Jose State in the Mountain West Conference. They’re 202nd in the country in field goal percentage (44.0), 222nd in rebounds (34.4) and are allowing teams to shoot 44.7 percent from the field. It’s easy to see why Fresno State is at the bottom of the barrel in the MWC.

On the other hand, New Mexico is looking to compete for a conference title, winning five of its last six, including a 3-0 record in true road games. One of the reasons the Lobos are so good is because they dominate the glass with a margin of close to 40 rebounds per game. Cameron Bairstow, Alex Kirk and Hugh Greewood are all averaging at least five boards per game. That’s not going to sit well against a smaller Fresno State team that does a poor job on the glass.
But the Bulldogs have a little bark to their bite. Although they don’t win many games, they do find ways to keep it close. Take the 68-60 loss on the road to a Top 10 San Diego State team for example. It’s also worth mentioning that the Aztecs are similar to the Lobos in size and athleticism.
Fresno State is 13-3-1 against the spread in its last 17 games following a SU loss. New Mexico is also 0-4 against the spread in its last five games. That game against San Diego State was a confidence booster, and with the home crowd, the Bulldogs should be able to make New Mexico sweat a little by covering the spread.
