The Florida State Seminoles travel to Virginia to play the Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.
Florida State improved to 12-4 on the year after beating Miami on the road 63-53 on Wednesday. The Seminoles shot an impressive 45.7% from the field and a whopping 46.7% from behind the arc in the win. Florida State scored 13 consecutive points over the final four minutes Wednesday to pull away from the Hurricanes. Aaron Thomas led the Seminoles with 12 points, while Ian Miller finished with a team-high 6 rebounds and 4 assists. On the year, Miller leads the team with 13.7 points and 3.8 assists per game. Thomas is averaging 12.5 points, while Okaro White averages a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game. The Seminoles are averaging 73.6 points per game while shooting a solid 47.5% from the field. Florida State is a decent rebounding team, pulling down 37.9 boards per game as a team this season. This was the Seminoles third straight win and they have now won seven of their past eight games. The Virginia Cavaliers dropped to 12-5 on the year after losing at Duke 69-65 on Monday. The Cavaliers shot 38.2% from the field and 40% from three-point range against Duke. Virginia reached the free-throw line 26 times and made 73.1% of their attempts. Malcolm Brogdon led the Cavaliers with 17 points, while Akil Mitchell pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds. Joe Harris had 15 points in the loss. On the season, Harris leads the Cavaliers with 10.9 points per game. Brogdon is averaging a close second at 10.5 points, while Mitchell is averaging a team-high 6.6 rebounds. Virginia is shooting a mediocre 43.9% from the field and averaging 65.8 points per game as a team so far this season. The Cavaliers are not a great team when it comes to distributing the basketball on offense and they are a decent rebounding team, pulling down 37.7 boards per contest. Virginia had won three straight and five out of six before losing to Duke earlier in the week. Virginia will now head home for three conference home games in the next week.
These are two teams that are starting to play their best basketball and are clicking on almost all cylinders right now. Florida State had a nice win on the road on Wednesday, while Virginia has had some extra time off after coming close to beating Duke on the road. Virginia beat Florida State on the road two weeks ago by 12 points. This will be a close game and I think the Seminoles will play much better than the last matchup. While Virginia may get the win, I’m siding with the Seminoles to keep it close until the end.
