The Michigan State Spartans and the Indiana Hoosiers face off on Tuesday in East Lansing in Big Ten college basketball action.
The Michigan State Spartans are rolling and are ranked fourth in the nation. Michigan State is 8-1 at home this season, 6-0 in Big 10 play, and they have played the 22nd ranked schedule. Gary Harris is leading the Spartans averaging 17.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Adreian Payne is averaging 16.2 points and 7.7 rebounds, Keith Appling is averaging 16.1 points and 4.6 assists per game, and Branden Dawson is averaging 10.1 points and 8.7 rebounds. Michigan State once again looks like a contender to win it all.

The Indiana Hoosiers looked like they were stepping up their game with a win over Wisconsin but they followed that up with a home loss to Northwestern showing they still have room to grow. Indiana is 2-4 away from home, 2-3 in the Big 10, and 1-2 against teams ranked in the top 25. Kevin Yogi Ferrell leads the Hoosiers averaging 17.4 points per game. Noah Vonleh is averaging 12.4 points and 9.2 rebounds, Will Sheehy is averaging 10.4 points, and Jeremy Hollowell is averaging 7.7 points. Indiana is averaging 78.1 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.1 points and their opponents are shooting 39.9 percent. Indiana is tied for seventh place in the Big Ten standings.
Michigan State is 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games, 5-1 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight home games. Indiana is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven road games, 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight games, and 1-3-1 against the spread against a team with a winning percentage over .600. The home team has covered the point spread in 16 of the last 22 meetings of these two.
While Michigan State is the far better team, I am not willing to lay this kind of number in a conference game so it’s just a lean to the Hoosiers.
