Storyline: The Indiana State Sycamores look to rebound from their first conference loss of the season when they travel to Chicago to face off with the Loyola (IL) Ramblers Wednesday.
Storyline: Indiana State seemed to be headed towards something for a little while there, rolling through its nonconference schedule with just 3 losses and handing a ranked Notre Dame team its first loss along the way. The Sycamores seemed to legitimize themselves even further by beginning MVC play with five straight wins. But they ran into the class of the league Saturday in #6 Wichita State and got humbled 68-48 and held to a season-low 31 percent from the field and just 5 of 20 from outside the arc. Indiana State also lost the rebound battle 44-30 and committed 18 turnovers. Senior G Dewon Cummings had a team-high 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting and senior G Jake Odum added 7 points and 3 assists. On the season, Indiana State is averaging 75.1 ppg on 47 percent shooting and Odum leads the team with 12.2 ppg, followed by senior G Manny Arop at 12.0 ppg.

Meanwhile, Loyola (IL) sits at 2-4 in the conference and comes in off a 53-48 loss to Evansville Saturday, in which the Ramblers outshot the Aces from the field 40 percent to 35 percent, but committed 17 turnovers and missed key shots down the stretch. Loyola was also outrebounded 34-30. Junior G Christian Thomas had a game-high 19 points and 8 boards, while freshman G Milton Doyle added 10 points and 6 rebounds. On the season, the Ramblers are averaging 66.7 ppg on 48 percent shooting and Doyle leads the team with 15.1 ppg, followed by Thomas at 14.2.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -6.5 for Indiana State, and although they just got drubbed, it was by the nation’s #6 team. The Sycamores haven’t made much noise in the basketball world since Larry Bird, but they seem to have a legitimate number two in the MVC here. Look for Indiana State to cover.
