The Line: Richmond Spiders -1 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Two of the better Atlantic 10 teams in Massachusetts and Richmond will meet for the first and only time this season. The Minutemen continue to plow their way through the conference with a 16-1 record, while the Spiders have been flying under the radar with wins in four of their last six games.
The difference in this ball game is going to be the rebounding department. UMass is averaging 39.3 boards per game which makes it one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Richmond is a much smaller team that is snagging just 32.4 rebounds per game. If the Spiders have to have all five guys crash the glass, it just opens up fast break opportunities for Chaz Williams and company.

The Minutemen have a lot of guys who can rebound, but they also shoot the ball extremely well at 44.2 percent. Richmond is a solid defensive team, holding opponents to under 41 percent from the field. Richmond also has a senior guard in Cedrick Lindsay, who has been nothing short of spectacular this season. He’ll put pressure on UMass and help create great television against a talented Minutemen front court.
However, I’m not sure that’s enough. Massachusetts record is what it is for a reason, and that includes being 7-2 against the spread on the road. UMass is also 7-1 against the spread in its last eight games following an against the spread victory.
The huge advantage in rebounding should help the Minutemen pull away midway through the second half. Getting the better team plus one point is an absolute gift.
