Storyline: Quinnipiac and Iona face off at Hynes Athletics Center in New York on Friday with first place in the MAAC on the line.
The Breakdown: Quinnipiac is 6-2 in the conference and winners in five of its last six, including an 85-71 victory over Niagra Saturday. The Bobcats had all five starters score in the double-figures, lead by a 16-point effort from senior G Umar Shannon. Junior G Zaid Hearst and junior F Ousmane Drame scored 14 points apiece and senior F Ike Azotam added 14 points and 14 rebounds. Quinnipiac hit 24 of 59 from the field and 7 of 15 from distance, while holding Niagra to 24 of 62 from the floor and 2 of 13 from outside the arc. The Bobcats committed 15 turnovers, but dominated the boards 56-27. On the season, Quinnipiac is averaging 77.5 ppg on 40.9 percent shooting and Azotam leads the team in scoring with 16.3 ppg, followed by Hearst at 13.6 ppg.

Iona, meanwhile, is also 6-2 in conference and a half-game out of first place. The Gaels have won two of their last three and come in off an 88-74 victory over Sienna Sunday behind a stellar shooting performance and 25 points from senior G Tre Bowman, including 5 of 9 from distance. Sophomore G Isaiah Williams added 20 points and 6 rebounds. Iona shot a strong 54 percent from the field and 13 of 27 from downtown, while limiting the Saints to 23 of 67 from the floor and 3 of 9 from three-point range. Through 17 games, the Gaels rank 16th in the country with 83.1 ppg on 48 percent shooting. Senior G Sean Armand leads the team in scoring with 18.6 ppg, followed by sophomore G A.J. English at 17.6 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this matchup is currently set at -7 for Iona. Quinnipiac topped Iona by 12 points back on Jan. 6 and the Bobcats haven’t lost in almost a month. Not sure about the winning side, but the points are more attractive right now.
