The Georgetown Hoyas look to break out of their slide as they pay a visit to Omaha to face Creighton Saturday night at 8PM.
Georgetown has now lost 4 of their last 5 games and are quickly falling out of the conversation in the Big East race. Most recently, the Hoyas saw a double digit lead erased quickly as the Marquette Golden Eagles rallied to force OT and steal a road win at the Verizon Center. The Hoyas were once again undone by the lack of contribution from their front court and key reserves as backcourt mates D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Markel Starks combined for 52 points for the game. No other player was in double figures and Mikeal Hopkins had 11 boards, but was ineffective on the blocks with just 4 points. The Hoya bench added just 8 points -- to make matters worse, big man Josh Smith was ruled ineligible and will miss the rest of the season -- a crushing blow to a season already on the brink.

Creighton played arguably the most impressive game of any team this college basketball season this past week as they visited Philly and blew the #4 Villanova Wildcats out of the stadium. The Bluejays knocked down a record 21 three point baskets and the game was out of reach before halftime -- and finished with a convincing 96-68 Creighton romp. Ethan Wragge hit a record 9 threes -- all resulting in his 27 points and Doug McDermott added 23 and 5. Jahenns Manigat added 19 and other role players contributed the occasional 3 ball as the Bluejays moved to 16-3 and 6-1 overall in big east play -- good for a share of the conference lead.
The Hoyas are reeling and the Bluejays should be flying high after their performance at Villanova last week. I like the Bluejays to blow this one open and run away with the easy cover and win at home. Look for 20+ from McDermott and Manigat and the Bluejays to score 75+ in the win.
