The Xavier Musketeers visit the Dunkin Donuts center for Saturday afternoon action against Providence at noon on Fox Sports 1.
The Musketeers are in a good spot in conference play as they sit at 5-1 and are fresh off a solid 84-74 win on the road at DePaul this past week. The Musketeers came hot out of the gate and ran up 50 points in a scorching first half effort that was fueled by the play of guard Semaj Christon. Christon, becoming one of the best scorers in the league, finished with 27 points and was 9-11 at the free throw line and 9-12 from the field. Justin Martin added 18 and Isiah Philmore added 13 and 7 down low. Xavier finished the game over 50% from the field and was once again solid at the line at 80%.

Providence is arguably the hottest team in the conference coming into this contest. The Friars have made their 0-2 start in conference play an afterthought, having won their last 4 contests. Providence most recently dispatched Butler 65-56 this past week. The Friars wore down the Butler offense with physical defensive play all night long. The Friars had a +15 rebounding advantage and were once again led by their floor general Bryce Cotton who finished with 18 points and 6 assists. Providence also got 14 and 17 from Kadeem Batts who continues to play well during this current win streak.
Xavier has been rock solid on the road all year but the Friars are red hot and I like the production they are getting from their key veterans. Look for Cotton, Henton and Batts to lead the way for the Friars as they move to 5-2 with the cover at home and inch closer to a share of the conference lead.
