It should be a dandy when San Diego State and Utah State square off Saturday night on ESPNU. It will be the first matchup between the two teams since 1998.
Although the Aggies have lost two in a row and three of their last four, they remain one of the better teams in the Mountain West with a 12-6 record and an offense that shoots nearly 47 percent from the field. They return home after losing to Boise State and UNLV on the road, and they hold an impressive 9-1 straight up record in front of their home fans. They’re also 6-1-1 on their home court.

Before capping this game, make sure to check on the health of forward Kyle Davis, who is questionable with a knee injury. He’s averaging 9.5 points per game and is one of Utah State’s best rebounders with 8.6 per game.
The Aztecs still have yet to lose a game since the early matchup against Arizona. They’re 17-1 on the year, 9-6 against the spread and 6-2 against the spread on the road. They’re length and athleticism really disrupts teams, as opponents are shooting a dismal 37.1 percent from the field, and they grab more than 40 rebounds per game. That’s a recipe for winning many basketball games and covering a lot of spreads.
For this game I have to back the Aztecs. I thought both UNLV and San Jose State could at least keep things close against them and I was horribly wrong. I don’t care that Utah State is a great home team and shoots a high percentage, those things will change against a great San Diego State defense.
Expect the Aztecs to pull away in the second half and cover the small chalk.
