The Southern Methodist Mustangs travel to Hofheinz Pavilion where the Houston Cougars await.
Southern Methodist doesn't have a great deal of trouble in the scoring department but they really lean on their #13 defense that gives up around 60 points to get things done. That defense has not allowed more then 56 points in fashioning a four game winning streak following a 70-56 decision over Rutgers. SMU rode 46.5% shooting and a 27-15 edge at the stripe to plenty of scoring while the D held the Scarlet Knights to under 33% from the field. Marcus Kennedy led the offense with 18 points and ten rebounds with Ben Moore netting 12 while three others scored eight points.

Houston kicked off the conference slate 2-0 but have tailed off since with defeats in three of four after falling at Memphis by an 82-59 count. Scoring has been an issue in the losses with the defense looking both good and bad at times. Nothing was good in an 82-59 defeat at the hands of Memphis with the Tigers connecting at a lights out 59% from the field which was too much for the UH attack that mustered 43%. The Cougars also gave the ball away 18 times and were 11-20 at the line which meant points were left on the floor. TaShawn Thomas was the Cougars high man with 14 points and seven boards with Brandon Morris and LeRon Barnes netting 13 and ten points.
On paper Southern Methodist appears to be the correct side and they have to win to keep pace in the conference. It's not cut and dry they will get the job done on the road but for now I'm on them...
