The Auburn Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide face off on Thursday in SEC college basketball rivalry action in a game originally scheduled for Wednesday.
The Auburn Tigers are still looking for their first SEC win of the year starting conference play 0-6. Auburn is 8-3 at home this season and have played the 1-3rd ranked schedule overall. K.T. Harrell is averaging 19.1 points per game to lead the Tigers. Chris Denson is averaging 18.8 points, Tahj Shamsid-Deen is averaging 8.9 points, and Allen Payne is averaging 7.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. Auburn is averaging 73.2 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.2 points and their opponents are shooting 43.3 percent. Auburn hasn’t been close to a win since their two point loss to Missouri on January 11th.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are a game under .500 overall and 3-3 in SEC play while playing the number two ranked schedule in the country. Alabama is 0-7 away from home this season including 0-4 against teams ranked in the top 25 and 0-6 against teams with a RPI better than 50. Trevor Releford leads the Crimson Tide averaging 18.2 points per game. Retin Obasohan is averaging 12.2 points, Levi Randolph is averaging 9.6 points, and Nick Jacobs is averaging 8.6 points. Alabama is averaging 70.6 points and they are shooting 45.3 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 67 points and their opponents are shooting 41.6 percent from the floor. Alabama may be the best team in the nation that has a losing record.
Auburn is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and 2-12 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Alabama is 1-4-1 against the spread against the SEC, 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games, and 2-9-1 against the spread in their last 12 games. Alabama is 4-10-1 against the spread in the last 15 meetings of these two.
Something has to give here with Auburn not winning in the SEC and Bam not winning on the road and while I expect emotion to run high in this rivalry game I see the Tide as the better team laying a very playable number.
