Fordham will travel to VCU on Wednesday in what will be a battle between the Rams. Unfortunately, Fordham has lost seven of its last eight games and is fresh off a blowout loss to Massachusetts, while VCU has won three in a row and eight of its last nine.
If you’ve been following along recently, you’d know that I really like this VCU team. It’s finally playing that elite defense we expect from Shaka Smart’s bunch, but it’s also found an offensive rhythm as of late. VCU is scoring 78.8 points per game in its last five outings and is holding opponents to 27.7 percent from downtown. Neither one of those numbers bode well for an ice cold Fordham squad.

Fordham is shooting just 39.7 percent from the field this season and yes yet to even face the defensive pressure of a team like VCU. It scored just 52 points in the loss to UMass and 48 in the loss to Saint Louis. VCU is one of the better defensive teams in the country, so you can certainly expect similar numbers.
To make matters worse for Fordham, it’s allowing teams to shoot 48.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc during its losing streak.
I think you know the direction I’m going here.
VCU is starting to turn the corner at the right time and is can taste the NCAA Tournament, while Fordham can’t wait for the season to end. VCU is 9-0 straight up his season on its home floor and should be able to do more than enough to cover the projected number on Wednesday night.
