The Syracuse Orange travel to Wake Forest to play the Demon Deacons on Wednesday.
Syracuse improved to 19-0, 6-0 ACC after beating Miami on the road 64-52 on Saturday. Syracuse’s zone held Miami to just 39.1% shooting even though they shot 52.9% from three-point range. The Orange shot 44.7% from the field and 45.5% from long-distance against the Miami zone defense. C.J. Fair led the way with 15 points, while Jerami Grant had 16 points and 8 rebounds for Syracuse. Syracuse out rebounded the Hurricanes 39-24 on Saturday. On the season, Fair leads the Orange with 16.6 points per game. Grant is averaging 12.7 points per game and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest. Trevor Cooney is averaging 13.5 points per game, while Tyle Ennis averages a team-high 5.4 assists per game. Syracuse averages 71.6 points per game while shooting 46% from the field as a team this season. The Orange are just average when it comes to distributing the ball on offense and rebounding. Syracuse is on a roll and will look to make it 20-0 on Wednesday. This will be the Orange’s fifth true road game of the season.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons improved to 14-6, 4-3 ACC after beating Notre Dame 65-58 at home on Saturday. The Demon Deacons shot 48.9% from the field and only 29.4% from behind the arc. Devin Thomas led Wake Forest with 21 points. Travis McKie finished with 14 points and Codi Miller-McIntyre added 6 of his 8 points in the final 2 minutes for the Demon Deacons. On the season, Miller-McIntyre averages a team-high 15.2 points and 4 assists per game. Thomas is averaging 11.5 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game. The Demon Deacons are averaging 72.2 points per game while shooting 44.9% from the field as a team this season. Wake Forest is a pretty good rebounding team, averaging 38.5 boards per game. The Demon Deacons have won three out of their last four in conference play. Wake Forest will stay home for this game where they are undefeated this season.
Syracuse is on a roll right now and it doesn’t seem like any of the ACC opponents can figure out the zone defense yet. Wake Forest has not faced much zone in conference play and I think they will struggle against it on Wednesday. The Demon Deacons will need to knock down shots from the outside and rebound the ball well in order to have a chance of winning at home. Syracuse has too many weapons on both ends of the floor and I’ll once again have to back them. Syracuse will win the game, but Wake Forest will keep it within double-digits.
