The Breakdown: Cal Poly sits in second place in the Big West 4-2 ad come in off a 61-58 loss to UC Riverside Saturday. The Mustangs connected on 38.6 percent from the field and just 3 of 17 from outside the arc, while allowing the Highlanders to shoot 42.5 percent from the floor 45.5 percent from distance. Cal Poly was also edged on the boards 31-29. Sophomore G Dave Nwaba had a game-high 17 points to go along with 6 rebounds and senior F Chris Eversly added 13 poins and 8 boards. On the season, the Mustangs are averaging 64.9 ppg on 42.8 percent shooting. Eversly leads the team in scoring with 13.5 ppg, followed by Nwaba at 12.0 ppg.

Meanwhile, UC Davis is in last place in the conference, falling to 1-4 after a 90-73 loss to Hawaii last Thursday. The Aggies were outshot from the field 58.2 percent to 50.9 percent, but topped the Warriors from outside the arc 43.5 percent to 38.9 percent. The Warriors also finished with a 30-22 advantage on the boards and hit 19 of 23 from the free throw line to 9 of 13 from UC Davis. Junior G Corey Hawkins scored a team-high 21 points, including 4 of 6 from downtown, and junior F Iggy Nujic added 17 points off the bench. Through 20 games, the Aggies are averaging 72.4 ppg on 45.2 percent shooting. Hawkins leads the team with 18.2 ppg, followed by senior G Josh Ritchart at 17.3 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -16 for Cal Poly. Although UC Davis has struggled a lot this season, they average more points per game than the Mustangs and shoot better from the field as well. Cal Poly has beaten a few teams that the Aggies have a lost to and vice-versa so that’s a tossup. Look for a closer game than the spread.
