Storyline: Saint Mary’s looks for five in a row when they take the road to face San Diego Thursday.
The Breakdown: The Gaels sit in second place in the WCC, improving to 6-2 with an 89-61 trouncing of Loyola Marymount Saturday. Junior F Brad Waldow had a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds; junior G Kerry Carter scored 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting and sophomore G Jordan Giusti added 15 points off the bench. St. Mary’s shot 50 percent from the field and hit 8 of 18 from outside the arc to the Lions’ 39.3 percent from the floor and 2 of 6 from distance. The Gaels also dominated the boards 39-27 and forced 19 turnovers. On the season, St. Mary’s is averaging 76.3 ppg on 47.2 percent shooting. Waldow leads the team in scoring with 16.7 ppg, followed by senior G Stephen Holt at 14.0 ppg.

Junior G Johnny Dee scored a game-high 21 points, including 4 of 4 from downtown, and senior F Dennis Kramer added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Through 22 games, San Diego is averaging 67.9 ppg on 45.2 percent shooting. Dee leads the team in scoring with 17.2 ppg, followed by sophomore G Duda Sanadze at 12.6 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -3.5 for St. Mary’s. Despite San Diego’s recent struggles, they do have some good performances to their credit. Most notably a one-point loss to #5 San Diego State. St. Mary’s is surging, though, so look for them to cover.
