The best Conference USA matchup on Thursday night will be a battle between Louisiana Tech and Texas-El Paso. The Bulldogs are winners in nine of their last 10 games, while the Miners are also figuring things out, winning four straight.
Louisiana Tech continues to rely on a healthy balance of great offense and solid defense. In its last five games, it’s averaging 81.4 points and allowing only 62.6. The defense has really stood out all season, allowing just 40 percent of its opponent’s shots to go in. Sophomore guard Alex Hamilton has really been playing well, as he’s scored at least 19 points in three straight games.

Texas-El Paso is no stranger to defense either with an average of 39.6 percent given up on a nightly basis. In their four-game winning streak, the Miners have allowed no more than 62 points. They struggle a little bit offensively, but they’re able to take advantage of an average of nearly 37 rebounds and easy put backs. There are four players on the roster who are averaging at least four boards per game.
The spread on this game is interesting and is really showing respect to the Miners. Louisiana Tech has proven to be the better team, but this is just one of those conference games that seems to favor the home team. The Don Haskins Center is going to be packed and should give the Miners much needed energy.
Not to mention Texas-El Paso is 5-2 against the spread at home, 11-3 against the spread overall and is 4-0 against the spread in its last four games against C-USA teams.
Take the home team and the points.
