The GSU Sports Complex will be hopping when the Georgia State Panthers host the Texas-Arlington Mavericks.
Texas-Arlington is not a household name in college basketball and that combined with 9-11 record makes this team something of an unknown. Having said that the Mavericks are playing decent basketball while both winnng and losing some. UTA fell to Western Kentucky on the road 77-72 in a game they led by seven after 20 minutes before almost collapsing in the late stages. The visitors connected at 49% but fell short at the line 23-15 when WKY was hitting free throws to ice. Lonnie McClanahan paced the offense with 28 points with Brandon Edwards netting 19 and Reger Dowell 12.

Georgia State's move to the Sun Belt has been a good one thus far with the team sitting in first place in the conference at 7-0 which is two games in front of Western Kentucky. Top notch scoring has been the calling card with the result being an eleven game winning streak. GSU needed their defense to step up last time out with the offense struggling to find the range. Things turned out well with a 66-58 decision at Louisiana-Monroe despite less then 38% shooting as the D gave up 48% accuracy but forced 15 turnovers which led to eleven more looks at the basket. Ryan Harrow and Devonta White formed a solid one, two punch with 18 and 17 points while RJ Hunter added 13 points and Manny Atkins chipped in with eight.
Georgia State wins this and has blowout potential but Texas-Arlington has been playing well lately. We'll see if the Mavericks can stay close enough to cover because that's about all they can hope for...
