There’s going to be a fairly decent Atlantic 10 matchup Saturday when Duquesne and La Salle play one another for the second time this season. La Salle dominated the previous meeting 75-56.
But since then, the Dukes have improved quite a bit, winning two of their last five and even giving Saint Louis a scare. They’ve scored more than 70 points in their last three games, but it’s the defense that’s allowing teams to shoot 50.9 percent in their last five that has been the problem. The Dukes are also doing a horrible job of defending the perimeter, allowing teams to shoot 48.2 percent from beyond the arc.

The good news is that La Salle isn’t a great three-point shooting team at just 31.8 percent. It’s not even a great shooting team at just 41.5 percent. However, its 43.1 percent defensively is certainly a lot better than what the Dukes have been allowing at any point in the season. Senior guard Tyreek Duren is coming off a 22-point performance in a loss to George Washington.
This game is a toss-up in my eyes, as you either like the high-scoring team in Duquesne that can’t play defense, or you think La Salle can do enough defensively to grind out the win in front of its home fans.
I like the way the Dukes have been playing as of late and I also like the fact they’re 3-1-1 against the spread on the road this season. La Salle is also 0-4-1 against the spread in its last five games.
I’m not overly confident on this pick, but I think there’s value by picking Duquesne on the road plus points.
