Old Dominion will make its way to Middle Tennessee State to take on the Blue Raiders Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs are experiencing a bit of a rough patch, losing two of their last three, while the Blue Raiders have won three of their last four and are looking to string together a third straight victory.
The Monarchs are usually a great defensive team, holding opponents to just 65.5 points per game on the season. However, that hasn’t been the case lately with Southern Mississippi and UAB dropping 75 points each within the last three games. In their last five games, opponents are shooting close to 40 percent from beyond the arc. Offensively continues to be a real struggle, but Dimitri Batten has scored at least 15 points in two straight games.

The Blue Raiders have beaten up two of the bottom feeders in the conference with wins over East Carolina and North Texas. Like Old Dominion, a lot of this success has come from a defense that is holding opponents to just 40.9 percent shooting in their last five games. But the offense has picked up a bit, especially from Shawn Jones, who has scored 22 points twice in his last three games.
This is likely going to be a defensive battle and could come down to the last couple of possessions. With that in mind, it’s always wise to go with the points, which I’ll gladly take Old Dominion on the road.
The Monarchs are 7-4 against the number away from home and are 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games played on Saturday.
Take the better defensive team in Old Dominion and the points.
