Southern Mississippi will put its four-game winning streak on the line when it hosts the Tulane Green Wave Saturday night. Tulane is 11-10 on the season after winning three of its last five games.
It’s no secret that the Golden Eagles are the best the Conference USA has to offer. They’ve steamrolled conference competition as of late and are averaging 74 points during their last five games. That’s good enough to get the job done when they’re holding teams to just 41.9 percent shooting on the season. They’re getting scoring contributions from just about everybody on the team and an average of 8.2 steals per game makes it even tougher for opposing teams.

Tulane isn’t nearly as flashy with its 41.6 shooting percentage, and is actually allowing more points than points scored. However, the Green Wave are coming off a road game against Old Dominion where they only lost by six points. Similar to Southern Miss, the Monarchs are also a great defensive team that usually ware down its opponent. If Tulane could keep up in that game, I feel comfortable taking the points in this one.
The Green Wave are 4-1 against the spread in their last five against C-USA competition and the road team is 7-3 against the spread in the last 10 games between these two teams. Tulane should be able to slow this game down just enough and get enough stops defensively to cover the number.
Take the road underdog and the ton of points.
