The #4 Villanova Wildcats step out of conference play for a cross-town showdown with a struggling Temple Owls club, Saturday at 4PM on CBS Sports network.
Villanova moved to 7-1 in conference play and continues to keep pace with Creighton as Nova visited DC and came out with a hard fought, 65-60 win over the Georgetown Hoyas. The Wildcats got minimal production off their bench but their starters were able to contribute all that was needed to take down a rail thin Hoyas squad. James Bell led the way with 16 points and Jayvaughn Pinkston added 12 points and 7 boards. The Wildcats held Georgetown leading scorer D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera to just 8 points on 2-11 shooting and held Georgetown to 44% as a whole. With the win, the Wildcats now rank 25th in the nation in scoring (80.5 ppg) and 29th in assists (15.8) per game.

Temple has had a ton of struggles this season as the Owls currently sit at 6-13 on the year and just 1-7 in AAC play. The Owls were able to get the no win monkey off their back this past week with an 88-82 victory at home over Rutgers. Temple started this contest red hot and ran out to a 50-37 advantage at the break that they never let up on. Guard Will Cummings had 21 points and 8 assists and Dalton Pepper added 20 and 4. The Owls also got 30 combined points from starters DeCosey and Lee. After this non-conference bout with Villanova, the Owls take to the lone star state for a tough road trip at SMU and Houston.
While the inner city Philadelphia rivalry games are usual competitive and close throughout given the bragging rights that are on the line, Villanova is in another class from Temple this season and I expect their physicality and talent to have this one out of reach for the Owls by early second half. Pinkston and Bell are the key here as the physical swingman each go for 15+ as the Wildcats run away with the cover and the win.
