The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Mississippi State Bulldogs face off on Saturday in Nashville in SEC college basketball.
The Vanderbilt Commodores have won their last two games and while it is a rebuilding year Kevin Stallings still has plenty to work with. Vandy is 7-3 at home this season and 3-4 in the SEC which puts them tied for eighth place in the conference standings. Rod Odom leads the Commodores averaging 14.1 points and 6.0 rebounds. Damian Jones is averaging 10.9 points and 5.5 rebounds, Kyle Fuller is averaging 11.2 points, and James Saikam is averaging 7.8 points. Vanderbilt is averaging 67.8 points and they are shooting 44.6 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 66.5 points and their opponents are shooting 39.9 percent. Vanderbilt appears to be playing their best basketball this season since SEC play began.

It has been an up and down year for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and they have lost their last two games to drop to 3-4 in the SEC. MSU is tied for eighth place in the SEC standings and 2-5 away from home this season. Craig Sword is the Bulldogs leading scorer averaging 13.8 points per game. Gavin Ware is averaging 10.8 points and 7.9 rebounds, Colin Borchert is averaging 10.6 points, and Roquez Johnson is averaging 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. Mississippi State is averaging 69.9 points and they are shooting 45.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 69 points and their opponents are shooting 43.9 percent. Mississippi State has just one win over a team with a RPI better than 100.
Vanderbilt is 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight games, 7-3-1 against the spread against the SEC, and 13-6-1 against the spread in their last 20 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. Mississippi State is 5-0 against the spread following a loss, 7-21 against the spread in their last 28 road games, and 0-7 against the spread following a double-digit home loss. Mississippi State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games at Vandy.
