The Maryland Terps travel to Virginia Tech to play the Hokies on Saturday afternoon.
Maryland improved to 12-9, 4-4 ACC after beating Miami 74-71 on Wednesday night. The Terps shot an impressive 56% from the field and a whopping 47.6% from three-point range in the win. Dez Wells led the way with a team-high 21 points and 4 rebounds. Jake Layman and Evan Smotrycz each tallied 15 points for Maryland, which won for only the second time in the past six games. On the season, Wells leads the Terps with 14.6 points per game, while Layman averages a second-best 12.5 points per contest. Smotrycz is averaging 11.3 points per game and a team-high 6.8 rebounds. Maryland averages 72.4 points per game while shooting only 43.2% from the field. The Terps are one of the best rebounding teams in the conference, pulling down 38.9 boards per game. Maryland will head out on the road for this game; the Terps are 1-4 on the road this season.

Virginia Tech dropped to 8-12, 1-7 ACC after losing at Boston College 76-52 on Wednesday night. The Hokies shot only 34% from the field and 28.6% from behind the arc in the loss. Virginia Tech reached the free throw line 21 times and only made 57.1% of their attempts. Jarell Eddie led Virginia Tech with 23 points and 10 rebounds. On the year, Eddie leads the Hokies with 14.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Devin Wilson is averaging 9.5 points per game and a team-high 4.6 assists. Virginia Tech is averaging 68.8 points per game while shooting 42.6% from the field. The Hokies are a good rebounding team but one of the worst when it comes to distributing the basketball on offense. The Hokies will come back home for this game before going out on the road for back-to-back games. Virginia Tech has lost their last five home games and has seven straight games overall.
Maryland has struggled on the road this season, but they are the far superior team in this one. Virginia Tech is a mess right now and they may struggle to win one game the rest of the year. I’m taking the Terps to win by double-digits on the road.
