Storyline: Oklahoma State looks to rebound from an upset loss while Iowa State hopes to go back to back when the two hook up at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater Monday.
The Breakdown: The Cowboys dropped to 4-4 and 6th place in the Big 12 after a losing a 76-70 stunner at home Saturday to a skidding Baylor side that had lost its previous five coming in. Ok State was topped from the field 51.9 percent to 46.0 percent and from outside the arc 47.8 percent to 28.6 percent. The Cowboys also conceded a 32-26 rebounding advantage and committed 14 turnovers. Senior G Markel Brown scored a game-high 24 points, including 6 of 8 from distance and junior F Le’Bryan Nash added 19 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore G Marcus Smart struggled shooting the ball, finishing with 15 points on 3 of 14 shooting and going 0 for 7 from downtown. On the season, Ok State is averaging 83.2 ppg on 47.6 percent shooting. Smart leads the team with 17.2 ppg, followed by Brown at 16.9 ppg.

Iowa State, meanwhile, improved to 4-4 and now sits in 6th place in the conference after avenging a loss to Oklahoma earlier in the season with an 81-75 victory over the Sooners Saturday. The Cyclones shot 28 of 63 from the floor and hit 10 of 26 from outside the arc to OU’s 28 of 69 from the field and 8 of 26 from distance. Sophomore F Georges Niang scored 27 points and senior F Melvin Ejim added 22 points and 16 boards. Through 20 games, the Cyclones are averaging 84.5 ppg on 47.6 percent shooting. Ejim leads the team with 18.1 ppg, followed by Niang at 16.4 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -6 for Ok State. A lot seems to hinge on how well Marcus Smart plays and he struggled big time against Baylor. He usually bounces back well from poor outings as have the Cowboys this season. Look for Ok State to cover.
