The St. John’s Red Storm head north to face the Providence Friars Tuesday night at 7PM on Fox Sports 1.
St. John’s broke their losing streak this past weekend and played what was arguably their most complete game of the year in a win over Marquette 74-59. St. John’s was efficient on offense and effective on defense as they rushed out to a 33-20 halftime lead behind the hot shooting of D’Angelo Harrison. Harrison led all scorers with 27 points on 7-16 shooting. Harrison added 7-7 at the free throw line and chipped in 3 assists. Jakarr Sampson was the only other player in double figures but multiple St. John’s players contributed. The Red Storm forced the Golden Eagles in 16 costly turnovers and finished the game with 12 blocks.

Providence went on the road to DePaul this past weekend and return home with a win after a 77-72 escape in Chicago. Providence guard Bryce Cotton had 28 points and 6 assists and the Friars built a 5 point halftime lead that they didn’t let slip away late. Providence shot the ball 52% for the game and hit 22-29 at the line. Tyler Harris broke out of a few game slump to score 18 points and LaDontae Henton added 19 and 7 himself. Providence moves to 6-3 and keeps pace in the big east race.
Providence has been strong at home of late and while St. John’s impressed in their win over Marquette, the Red Storm have been bad on the road and the Dunkin Donuts center is a tough venue to get a road win in. I like Bryce Cotton to outduel D’Angelo Harrison as the Friars make it 7-3 in conference play as they inch closer to the top of the standings with the cover.
