Storyline: Ball State hopes to halt a three-game slide when they visit Buffalo Tuesday.
The Breakdown: The Cardinals fell to 1-7 for 5th place in the MAC-West after a narrow 67-65 overtime loss to Northern Illinois Saturday. Ball State connected on 22 of 57 from the floor and 7 of 21 from outside the arc to the Huskies’ 20 of 52 from the field and 7 of 17 from distance. The Cradinals dominated the boards 44-26, but struggled from the line, hitting just 14 of 28 and committed 15 turnovers. Senior F Chris Bond scored a game-high 16 points, including 3 of 4 from downtown and senior G Jersse Berry had 13 points off the bench, and freshman G Zavier Turner added 11 points, including 2 of 5 from distance. On the season, Ball State is averaging 64.1 ppg on 40.1 percent shooting. Turner leads the team with 12.1 ppg, followed by Bond at 11.7 ppg.

Buffalo, meanwhile, dropped to 5-3 for 3rd place in the MAC-East following a 74-68 defeat at Bowling Green Sunday. The Bulls were topped from the field 42.1 percent to 38.2 percent, but edged the Falcons from outside the arc, hitting 8 of 26 to their 3 of 12. Buffalo also conceded a 42-37 rebounding edge and struggled from the free throw line, connecting on just 18 of 28. Junior F Will Regan had a team-high 17 points to go along with 7 boards, senior G Joshua Freelove scored 16 points and senior F Javon McCrea added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Through18 games, the Bulls are averaging 71.9 ppg on 43.2 percent shooting. McCrea leads the team with 17.5 ppg, followed by Freelove at 12.8 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -14 for Buffalo, a massive number considering the Bulls only beat Ball State by three points two weeks ago. The points look like the safer play here.
