Storyline: 23rd-ranked Gonzaga hopes to avenge its only conference loss of the season when it hosts Portland Wednesday.
The Breakdown: The Bulldogs sit atop the WCC, improving to 10-1 with their sixth consecutive victory 75-65 over San Francisco Saturday. The Zags connected on 19 of 49 from the field and 3 of 16 from outside the arc to the Dons’ 20 of 58 from the floor and 8 of 25 from distance. Gonzaga also came away with a 40-35 advantage on the boards and hit 34 of 41 from the free throw line. Senior F Sam Dower scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, junior G Gary Bell, Jr. had 13 points, and sophomore C Przemek Karnowski added 12 points and 8 boards. On the season, the Zags are averaging 79.3 ppg on 50.4 percent shooting. Junior G Kevin Pangos leads the team with 15.4 ppg, followed by Dower at 14.8 ppg.

Meanwhile, Portland is in 6th place in the conference, improving to 5-6 after a 76-64 victory over Santa Clara Saturday. The Pilots outshot the Broncos from the floor 52.1 percent to 38.2 percent and from outside the arc 28.6 percent to 22.7 percent. Portland also came out ahead on the boards 35-24 and converted 24 of 28 from the free throw line. Junior C Thomas van der Mars scored a game-high 28 points, including 10 of 10 from the stripe, and grabbed 11 rebounds, while senior F Ryan Nicholas added 13 points and 10 boards. Through 23 games, the Pilots are averaging 78.0 ppg on 45.8 percent shooting. Junior G Kevin Bailey leads the team with 16.6 ppg, followed by van der Mars at 12.8 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -16 for Gonzaga and that;s a lot to lay down when Portland knocked the Zags off three weeks ago. Yes, Portland, had gone 3-3 since that upset, while the Bulldogs haven’t lost a game, but it was a still a decisive 9 point victory for the Pilots. Look for a closer game than the sprerad.
