A Thursday night matchup between Texas-El Paso and East Carolina will be a C-USA matchup between one of the best and worst teams in the conference.
UTEP has won six straight games and has been nothing but money to bettors, while East Carolina has lost six of its last seven and has been anything but.

Like much of the season, the Miners have been playing extremely well on both sides of the ball. In their last five games they’re holding teams under 40 percent shooting and only 62.6 points. Meanwhile, the offense is shooting a lights out 48.8 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from downtown and averaging 72.8 points. This type of play at both ends of the court is the reason they’ve covered 12 of 16 games this season.
The Pirates recent win over UAB showed they are alive and still care about this season, but don’t put too much stock into it. The once explosive offense is shooting just 39.7 percent from the field in its last five games. East Carolina is also 4-9-2 against the spread and an even horrible 0-5 ATS on its home court.
Gee, I wonder where we’re going to go in this one.
UTEP is the much better team from top to bottom and is playing a lot more consistent. It is also 6-1 against the spread on the road and is 4-1-1 ATS in its last six meetings against East Carolina.
Such small chalk may seem like a trap, but I don’t care.
I’ll take the better team and the small points any day of the week.
