The Line: Rice Owls +1.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
It’ll be a battle between two of the bottom feeders in the C-USA when North Texas takes a bus ride to take on Rice. The Mean Green have gone cold, losing three of their last four and the Owls haven’t been any better as they’ve only won one game since the middle of December.
Usually you would just skip a game like this, but the low line leaves the door open to make some money.

While North Texas hasn’t exactly been lighting it up recently, it usually only loses to the better teams in the conference. While Rice has lost to pretty much everybody, North Texas has lost to Charlotte, Tulsa, Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss, teams that can be considered the better half of the C-USA.
In their last five games, the Mean Green are shooting 46.3 percent and holding teams to 43.8 percent shooting. Meanwhile, the Owls are shooting just 40 percent from the field and allowing their opponents to knock down 44.9 percent of their shots. Sure, not a huge difference defensively, but you take what you can get when you’re a team that’s fighting to keep its head above water.
Against the spread Rice is 7-9 on the year and North Texas is 7-6-1. The number that really jumps out is Rice’s 2-5 ATS record at home and North Texas’ 6-3 ATS record on the road. The Mean Green are also 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight games following an ATS loss.
It may not be by a wide margin, but North Texas is the better team between these two struggling clubs. And with the line, you almost have no choice to take the Mean Green and the small chalk.
It may not be pretty but North Texas will get the job done.
