The Detroit Titans and Valparaiso Crusaders will play a rare basketball game on national television Friday night. The Titans are losers in six of their last eight games and the Crusaders are winners in five of their last six.
These two teams met in the middle of January and Valparaiso won 78-70.

Detroit hopes to get up a lot of shots offensively, which is why it averages 71.8 points per game but only shoots 41.9 percent from the field. It isn’t much of a three-point shooting team at 31.4 percent but is ranked 74th in the country in rebounding with an average of 37.4 per game. Defensively, the Titans allow 70.7 points on 43.4 percent shooting.
Valparaiso has won two straight, which includes a victory over the Horizon League’s best team, Green Bay. It’s a team that play well on both sides of the ball, shooting 47.8 percent offensively and holding opponents to just 40.7 percent shooting. Six of the Crusaders 10 losses have come when they have failed to score 70 or more points.
Detroit is 9-12 against the spread this season, while Valparaiso is 11-7-1, which includes an ATS record of 6-3 at home. The Crusaders have covered five of their last six games overall and have beaten Detroit SU in seven of their last nine meetings.
Detroit has been on a defensive struggle as of late, allowing more than 70 points in five of its last eight games. Considering Valparaiso is almost unbeatable when it tops that magic number, you have to like the home team in this matchup.
The Crusaders are 9-3 SU on their home court. They’ll do enough to cover the spread in front of their home fans.
