Storyline: 21st-ranked Oklahoma hopes to halt a two-game skid when they host slumping Baylor Saturday.
The Breakdown: The Sooners have lost consecutive games for the first time this season, drooping to 6-4 and third place in the conference after a 91-86 overtime loss to West Virginia Wednesday. OU edged the Mountaineers from the field 40.6 percent to 39.4 percent, but were outdone from outside the arc 34.4 percent to 26.3 percent. The Sooners also conceded a 46-44 advantage on the boards and committed 13 turnovers. Meanwhile, Baylor dropped to 2-7 for 9th place in the conference with its 69-52 home loss to #8 Kansas Tuesday. The Bears shot a dismal 16 of 55 from the floor and 6 of 20 from outside the arc to the Jayhawks’ 25 of 54 from the field and 6 of 10 from downtown. Baylor also gave up a 45-31 advantage on the boards and struggled from the free throw line, converting 14 of 21. Senior F Corey Jefferson scored a team-high 14 points on 4 of 11 shooting, senior G Brady Heslip had 12 points, including 4 of 10 from distance, and sophomore F Rico Gathers added 9 points and 8 rebounds off the bench. Through 22 games, the Bears are averaging 74.6 ppg on 46.1 percent shooting. Jefferson leads the team with 12.6 ppg, followed by Heslip at 11.3 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -5.5 for Oklahoma. The Sooners scored a narrow two point victory when these two met up in Waco three weeks ago and the line looks about right with OU having home court this time. Look for the Sooners to cover.
