The Line: Old Dominion Monarchs +1.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Texas-El Paso will put its seven-game winning streak on the line when it takes on Old Dominion on Saturday.
While the Miners have been red hot, the Monarchs have struggled recently, losing three of their last five games. During that bit of a slump, they’re shooting just 40.2 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from downtown. That’s a slight drop off from the 42.8 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from beyond the arc that they’re averaging on the season. While the offense has struggled, the defense has remained solid as they’re holding opponents to just 65.2 points per game on 42 percent shooting on the season.

The Miners have been playing flawless ball since getting off to a shaky start during the first half of the season. During their winning streak they’re shooting 50 percent from the field and averaging 71.8 points. The defense has also remained on par with their season average of 39.4 percent shooting by its opponents.
The line for this game seems a little fishy. Sure, Old Dominion is better than what it has shown over the last week and has won three of its last four home games. But Texas-El Paso is 4-1 SU on the road this season and is playing terrific basketball at both ends of the floor. It’s also been a money making machine with a 13-4 ATS record, while the Monarchs are just an average 10-10 against the number.
Also, Old Dominion’s second leading scorer, Dimitri Batten is questionable with a shoulder injury. So, please check his status before wagering.
Whether the junior guard plays or not, I like the Miners on the road and the tiny chalk. They’ve made us money all season long, no reason to fade them now against a struggling conference foe.
