Illinois State will put its two-game winning streak on the line when it takes on Loyola (IL), a team that has lost three straight. These teams met a month ago and Illinois State won 59-50.
The Redbirds are coming off wins against Drake and Northern Iowa, two games in which they showed offensive potential, scoring above 70 points in both. On the season they average just 68.8 points per game and shoot a lousy 40.4 percent from the field. Those numbers have dropped even further in their last five games, as they’re averaging 38.8 percent from the field. However, they are good defensively, holding teams to 42.6 percent shooting and 69.9 points per game. The Redbirds are just 9-12 against the spread and 3-7 ATS on the road.

The Ramblers 8-15 record may be the worst record in the Missouri Valley, but they do shoot a lights out 47.5 percent from the field. The problem is that only translates to an average of 66.5 points per game. Not a lot of scoring going on with this team. Defensively they allow just 67.2 points per game and even held an explosive Wichita State offense to just 57 points. Against the spread they are 8-12-1 and 4-5 ATS at home.
In a game that’s pretty much considered a pick em, I usually want to favor the home team unless there’s a huge angle that I simply can’t ignore. In this game there isn’t. You’re looking at two teams that are pretty much the bottom of the barrel. But you have to like the way the Ramblers shoot the basketball and play defense.
Also, the Rambles are 5-1-1 in their last seven games ATS and have covered three of their last five home games.
Take the home team in a toss-up game.
