The Line: Rhode Island Rams +4 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Massachusetts Minutemen will try to prove they can win on the road when they take on the Rhode Island Rams Sunday afternoon. The Minutemen have lost three of their last five and three straight road games, while the Rams have lost two straight.
Massachusetts recently snapped a two-game losing streak with a big win over La Salle. The offense finally got going by scoring 79 points, while the defense stepped up and held the Explores to under 40 percent shooting. On the season the Minutemen shoot 47.4 percent from the field and average 77.5 points per game. Defensively, they allow 69.6 points on 40.9 percent shooting. However, consistency has been an issue over the last week with three losses. Against the spread they are 13-9 and 8-4 on the road.

The Rams have completely fallen off in the second half of the season, losing six of their last eight games. They’re shooting just 43.2 percent on the season and average 67.3 points, while the defense allows 69.4 points on 44.1 percent shooting. They’re coming off one of their worst offensive performances of the season against VCU where they scored 52 points on 34.6 percent shooting. Against the spread they’re 10-8 and 4-3 at home.
The line is surprisingly low, as UMass is clearly the better basketball team in this matchup. They shoot a much higher percentage, play better defense and have a solid ATS record. Sure, there are struggles on the road, but I’m not sure Rhode Island has enough horses to keep this one close enough to cover the number.
The Minutemen are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS win and are 5-1 ATS in their last six games in Rhode Island.
Give me the better team and the small chalk, please.
