Storyline: St. Peter’s eyes consecutive victories when they host Monmouth Sunday at the Yanitelli Center.
The Breakdown: The Peacocks improved to 4-9 for 8th place in the MAAC with a 66-53 handling of Siena Friday. St. Peter’s outshot the Saints from the floor 44.0 percent to 38.6 percent and finished with a 34-32 edge on the boards. The Peacocks also forced 14 turnovers and converted 19 of 29 from the free throw line. Junior G Desi Washington had a game-high 18 points, junior F Marvin Dominique had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and freshman G Trevis Wyche added 13 points and 5 assists. Through 22 games, St. Peter’s is averaging 63.7 ppg on 39.6 percent shooting. Dominique leads the team in scoring with 17.1 ppg, followed by Washington at 13.1 ppg.
Meanwhile, Monmouth sits in 8th place in the conference, dropping to 4-9 behind their second straight defeat 60-56 at Fairfield Friday. The Hawks connected on 19 of 55 from the field and 3 of 10 from outside the arc to the Stags’ 39.6 percent from the floor and 5 of 16 from distance. Monmouth matched Fairfield on the boards 40-40, but committed 17 turnovers and struggled from the free throw line, converting on 15 of 24. Junior G Andrew Nicholas scored a game-high 16 points and Deon Jones added 10 points and 5 rebounds. On the season, the Hawks are averaging 70.6 ppg on 41.8 percent shooting. Jones leads the team in scoring with 14.9 ppg, followed by Nicholas at 14.2 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -4.5 for St. Peter’s. These two haven’t hooked up yet, but Monmouth handed Canisius one of its three conference losses, while St. Peter’s took out a good Rider team. The Peacock’s get the lean, though, because they’re at home.
