The Charlotte 49ers will look for a statement win on Sunday when they take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The 49ers are coming off of a one-point loss to Tulane and have lost three of their last five games, while the Golden Eagles have won six straight.
Charlotte continues to play decent basketball but just can’t seem to get any breaks. Its last two losses have been decided by one basket. In the 49ers last five games they’re shooting 41.8 percent from the field and averaging 65.4 points. Defensively, they’re giving up 65.8 points on 42.2 percent shooting. They just don’t have enough consistent scorers to get them over the hump in close games.

That’s likely going to be a problem against a Southern Miss team that averages 72 points and shoots 46 percent from the field. In the rare case where the shots aren’t falling, the Golden Eagles still hold their opponents to 41.9 percent shooting and 61.9 points per game on the season. The ridiculous balance on both sides of the ball is the reason this is by far the best team in the C-USA.
While it’s clear the Golden Eagles should have no problem winning this game, especially at home where they are 10-0 SU. You should also feel comfortable laying the points considering they are 13-6-1 against the spread. Charlotte is 10-8 ATS the 6-5 ATS on the road, but that still doesn’t match up to the Golden Eagles 6-1 ATS record at home.
The favorite is also 4-1 ATS in the last four meetings between these two teams.
I think the 49ers are a much better team than people give them credit for being, but Southern Miss is in a completely different class right now and should keep covering numbers.
