The 19th ranked, conference leading Creighton Bluejays head to the Big Apple to face the St. John’s Red Storm Sunday afternoon at 7PM on Fox Sports One.
Creighton continues to lead the nation in assists and continues to play solid ball in conference play. The Bluejays made easy work of DePaul this past week 78-66. The Bluejays were led by Doug McDermott’s 32 and 9. McDermott was 9-21 from the floor and averages 25.3 points per game for the season. The Bluejays have now won 4 in a row and their run was started by their historic shooting display at Villanova. The Bluejays continue to hold the head to head tie breaker and are looking ahead to a rematch with Nova after this two game road trip.
St. John’s got arguably their best win of conference play this past week as they defeated Providence on the road 86-76. The Red Storm shot it 50% from the floor and 54% from deep. The Red Storm got strong contributions from their starters as D’Angelo Harrison scored 22 and Rysheed Jordan added 18, 6 boards and 4 assists. Jakkar Sampson added 21 points and the Red Storm turned the ball over just 5 times -- their efficient play gives a good glimpse of how solid the Red Storm could be if their key contributors start to be more consistent.
While the Red Storm pulled off a rock solid road win at Providence, the Johnnies have been off and on game to game all year long. The Bluejays continue to dominate in conference play and the venue does not seem to matter as the Bluejays are equally impressive on the road. I like Creighton to be too much for St. John’s from deep and the dull Red Storm home crowd to make no difference as Creighton runs away with the road win and the cover to get to 10-1 in conference play.
