Storyline: James Madison tries to put the brakes on a three-game slide when they host Hofstra Monday.
The Breakdown: The Dukes slipped to 3-7 for 8th place in the CAA after a 78-60 spanking at Drexel Saturday. JMU shot 37.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from outside the arc to the Dragons’ 54.7 percent from the floor and 46.7 from downtown. The Dukes also conceded a 36-24 rebounding advantage and committed 12 turnovers. Sophomore G Charles Cooke scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, sophomore G Ron Curry had 17 points on 6 of 13 shooting, and senior F Andrey Semenov added 12 points and 4 rebounds. On the season, James Madison is averaging 62.6 ppg on 41.6 percent shooting. Sophomore G Andre Nation leads the team in scoring with 17.0 ppg, followed by Cooke at 14,7 ppg.

Meanwhile Hofstra ended a five-game losing streak with a 61-52 victory over North Carolina-Wilmington Saturday. The Pride now sit in 6th place in the conference with a record of 4-6. Against the Seahawks, Hofstra shot 43.5 percent from the floor and connected on 3 of 13 from outside the arc to their opponents’ 46.5 percent from the field and 4 of 13 from distance. The Pride, however, finished with a 32 to 25 advantage on the boards and forced 13 turnovers. Senior F Zeke Upshaw scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, sophomore F Jordan Allen had 15 points and 9 boards, and senior G Dion Nesmith added 13 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Through 25 games, Hofstra is averaging 67.2 ppg on 41.9 percent shooting. Upshaw leads the team with 18.8 ppg, followed by Nesmith at 13.2 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this matchup is currently set at -5 for James Madison. These two haven’t hooked up yet but this is truly a battle to crawl out of the bottom of the CAA with Hofstra one game up on JMW and both just several games out of last place. Hofstra brings more offense, though, so at the very least look for a closer game than the spread.
