The Marquette Golden Eagles visit the Prudential Center to face the Seton Hall Pirates Tuesday night at 7PM on Fox Sports 1.
Marquette sits at 13-10 on the year and find themselves in an unfamiliar spot towards the bottom of the conference standings at 5-5. The Golden Eagles have simply not been able to get consistent scoring. In their most recent game, the Golden Eagles relied on their defense to overwhelm a thin Butler roster for the 69-62 win. Davante Gardner leads the Golden Eagles with 14 points and 6 rebounds per game. The big man is soft around the hoop and very good at the FT line. Jamil Wilson averages 11, but no other Golden Eagle has stepped up to fill the shoes of graduated scorers Vander Bleu and Cadougan. The Golden Eagles will need to rely on home court advantage and defense if they want to stay afloat the rest of the year.

Seton Hall fell to 4-6 in conference play this past weekend as they were outclassed on the road by a quality Villanova team 70-53. Fuquan Edwin struggled to just 8 points in this contest but added 6 boards and 6 assists and Sterling Gibbs led the way with 16 points and 3 assists. The Pirates let Villanova shoot it 50% from the field and the Wildcats also dominated the Pirates on the glass. Seton Hall committed 10 assists to 15 turnovers as well -- a recipe for disaster on the road against a solid team.
Both of these teams have been up and down this year and while the Golden Eagles have hung tough on the road this season, they often fail to show up offensively. I expect a grind it out affair here as well with the Pirates having the upper hand at the end. Look for a bounce back showing from Fuquan Edwin with 15+ points as the Hall get to win number 5 in conference play with the cover at home.
