The Northern Illinois Huskies welcome MAC rival the Central Michigan Chippewas to town.
On the surface we see that Central Michigan is 1-8 in the MAC and tied for last in the standings although those numbers are deceiving in my view. The Chippewas have generally been competitive with a few exceptions and a 79-70 loss to Buffalo last time out falls in that category. CMU trailed by three at the half and simply ran out of gas as the Bulls pulled away late. UB connected at 51.8% from th field with CMU countering with just 40% but staying close with eleven bombs. Chris Fowler and Blake Hibbits paced the scoring with 17 points each with Austin Stewart adding 15 and Austin Keel, eight.

Northern Illinois has been playing their best basketball of the season over the past month although they saw a three game winning streak come to an end in Sunday's 74-71 loss to visiting Western Michigan. This might have been a season changer with the Huskies coming back frome a late double figure deficit to have a shot at the win or tie. The bottom line is NIU doesn't score a ton of points so when they put anything close to 70 they have to win. The Broncos burned the nets at nearly 53% but were competitive on 47% but that was still decisive because it gave WMU a few more baskets. Jordan Threloff led four DD scorers with 16 points followed by Aaron Armstead with 14 while Travon Baker and Darrell Bowie netted 12 and eleven points.
Ironically Northern Illinois has issues at home and Central Michigan just has issues. I certainly wouldn't rush out to back either with more then a few areas of concern. Seems like a good place for the Chippewas to surprise but I hope not...
