The Syracuse Orange travel to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers on Wednesday night.
Syracuse improved to 23-0, 10-0 ACC after beating Clemson at home 57-44 on Sunday. On the season, C.J. Fair leads the Orange with 16.8 points per game. Fair is also averaging 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists, while Tyler Ennis is averaging 11.8 points and a team-high 5.7 assists. Ennis is the floor general and has shown a great deal of maturity in just his freshman year. Trevor Cooney is averaging a second-best 14 points per game, while Jerami Grant is averaging a team-high 7 rebounds per game. Syracuse is shooting 46% from the field while averaging 71.1 points per game as a team this season. The Orange are a good rebounding team, especially on the offensive end of the floor. Defensively, Syracuse has held all of their ACC opponents to under 60 points except for the Duke Blue Devils. The Orange will head out on the road where they have won five games this season.

The Pittsburgh Panthers improved to 20-4, 8-3 ACC after beating Virginia Tech in overtime 62-57 on Saturday. The Panthers were 20-point favorites heading into the game Saturday and they struggled to find a good rhythm throughout the contest. On the season, Lamar Patterson leads the team with 17.2 points and a team-high 4.5 assists per game. Patterson is an elite player and has the ability to carry the Panthers on his back to win games when needed. Talib Zanna is a force down low, averaging 12.5 points per game and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. Pittsburgh is averaging 73.3 points per game while shooting a solid 46.8% from the field as a team this season. The Panthers are a solid rebounding team and they will have to keep Syracuse off the glass if they want to win Wednesday night. Pittsburgh is also one of the better teams when it comes to distributing the basketball, averaging 16.1 assists per game as a team this year. Pittsburgh will be at home for this game; the Panthers have lost their last two home games to Duke and Virginia.
It’s strange that these two rivals are playing in the ACC now, but the same emotion and energy will be put forth no matter what conference they are playing in. Syracuse has been playing consistently good all year, which obviously shows in their record. Pittsburgh has been a little shaky as of late, as they lost their last two home games and struggled against a bad Virginia Tech team last weekend. If the Panthers can knock down some outside shots and rebound the ball well they should have a good chance at home in this one. I still don’t feel comfortable backing the Panthers right now because they rely too much on Lamar Patterson. Syracuse has several playmakers and they are the better overall team. I think the Orange stay undefeated and win at Pittsburgh.
